South-East Asia: Thai & Malaysia

Hout Bay

Activity Description

Course Dates:

3 October 2019 (18h00 – 21h30)

This course is one session and includes a variety of recipes from Thailand & Malaysia.

Pan-Asian food, is fast becoming one of the more popular choices for eating styles in Western Civilisations. The proliferation of Asian delicacies into Western culture, for example, peanut sauces, rice noodles and lemon grass, are no longer limited to the shelves of Asian markets or specialty stores. Recipes are simple and easy to prepare, resulting in delicious foods using exciting and flavourful ingredients that make up the bold and vibrant cuisine of South-East Asian cooking that addresses all four of the palate’s principal taste elements-sweet (sugar, fruits, sweet peppers), hot (chillies), sour (vinegar, lime juice, tamarind) and salty (soy sauce, fish sauce)-usually simultaneously. The assault on the entirety of one’s tasting faculties is irresistible. The dishes excite the olfactory sense as well with aromas and scents-basil, coriander, lime leaf, garlic, lemon grass, ginger, cumin, turmeric and coconut-combining and recombining in subtle variations, creating stimulating and lusty flavours.

Customer Reviews

We had a fantastic night and experience with Stir-Crazy. I booked a class for my wife's birthday, but we had to cancel the night before, I was totally o.k with losing the money because I was late but they a plan and we got our night a week later. The funny thing was that we didn't read the menu for the new cooking lesson but it sounded like fun and when we got there we realized it was very much seafood based. Now, my wife doesn't eat fish and I am a bit allergic to shellfish. But it didn't matter, we had a great time cooking and learning alot and explored brand new about flavors, and the best is we were out of our comfort zone learning things we would never learn otherwise. For starters, just learning how to read a recipe on my side... We have since cooked the recipes and they are now officially part of our evening meal options. Our chef was very helpful and skillful and made the night a pleasure. The view is stunning too. Thanks guys. - Andre Theron
